Akuamma Vs Kratom
As more and more individuals have become seekers of natural alternatives to western medicine, two of the natural options that have really stood out and grown in popularity are Kratom and Akuamma. So what exactly are they and what are the differences between the two?
What is Akuamma?
Akuamma also known as Vincamajordine or Picralima Nitida is a tree that can be found all over the Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Ghana. It is the seeds that are found in the fruit of these tropical trees that are what make this them famous as they are rich in the alkaloid Akuammine which is a potent indole alkaloid. These seeds have been used medicinally for centuries by West Africans to treat a multitude of ailments. The seeds, which are very bitter to taste, are either eaten whole or ground into powder. Much like Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa, Akuamma is a tall tropical tree harvested in the wild and it is known for being a strong alternative to western medicine. It’s benefits are very similar to Kratom as well, ranging from its reported analgesic properties and muscle relaxing abilities to being a great anti-diarrhea alternative to over the counter options. Akuamma has even been reported to provide help with anxiety symptoms and with symptoms of opioid withdrawal. So just how similar are Kratom and Akuamma and what sets them apart?
What is Kratom?
Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa is a tropical evergreen tree of the coffee plant family and is grown and harvested in Southeast Asia. Kratom has been used for centuries as a workers aid and for medicinal purposes. It is the leaves of this tropical tree that are consumed for medicinal benefits and these leaves contain the main alkaloids Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine, both of which are known to interact with the opioid receptors in the brain. Reportedly often resulting in sedation, relief from pain, an increase in energy and focus and even increased pleasure. There are several different strains of Kratom which are broken down into color families and each dolor identified buy the color of the leaves vein. Each strain possesses their own unique benefits. The different color families are green vein, red vein, white vein, yellow and brown. Much like Akuamma, Kratom has gained popularity for it’s reported benefits such as relief from anxiety symptoms, energy production, boosted mood, analgesic properties, improved focus and assistance with opioid withdrawal symptoms. So really overall these two natural supplements, Akuamma and Kratom are very very similar. The only real difference would be that it is reported that Akuamma has a much milder effect than that of Kratom, but the duration of the benefits is said to be possibly longer. So I guess what it really comes down to is personal choice as well as the availability of each product, but there is a reason that Kratom is the vastly more popular botanical
